SMBC Aviation Capital Launches Sustainability Strategy 2030 & Beyond

SMBC Aviation Capital has published its “Sustainability Strategy 2030 & Beyond, Proving Progress Is Possible” setting out how the company is supporting aviation’s transition to a more sustainable future while continuing to enable the global connectivity the industry provides.

Aviation plays a vital role in connecting people, facilitating trade and tourism, and supporting economic growth worldwide. As one of the world’s leading aircraft leasing platforms, SMBC Aviation Capital recognises both the responsibility and the opportunity it has to drive meaningful progress across the aviation ecosystem.

Central to the strategy is a clear focus on turning ambition into action. Working with airline customers, investors, and industry partners, SMBC Aviation Capital is advancing the adoption of new-technology aircraft, championing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and supporting initiatives that deliver positive environmental and social impact.

“As a leading global aviation platform, we recognise both the responsibility and the opportunity we have to help shape a more sustainable future for our industry,” said Annabel FitzGerald, SVP Corporate Affairs. “Aviation is a powerful force for good, and our focus is on ensuring it continues to deliver for society by taking a balanced approach by reducing environmental impact, supporting positive social outcomes, and underpinning everything we do with strong governance. Progress at scale will only be achieved through collaboration, and we’re working closely with our customers and partners across the aviation ecosystem to drive meaningful and lasting progress.”

A Three-Pillar Approach

The strategy is built around three core pillars:

Environmental Stewardship

SMBC Aviation Capital is continuing to build a more fuel-efficient portfolio, with a significant proportion of its fleet comprising new-technology aircraft that deliver lower emissions. The company is also actively supporting the scale-up of SAF, recognised as the most immediate and viable decarbonisation lever for aviation, while enhancing transparency through robust climate reporting aligned to leading global frameworks.

Social Responsibility

Recognising that sustainability extends beyond environmental impact, the company is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace and investing in its people. Through corporate partnerships and community initiatives, SMBC Aviation Capital is working to deliver meaningful, long-term social impact in the communities it connects and operates in.

Governance and Integrity

Strong governance underpins the strategy, with clear oversight, accountability, and transparency ensuring that sustainability commitments are embedded across the organisation and supported by measurable outcomes.

As the aviation sector navigates the path to net zero, SMBC Aviation Capital’s strategy highlights the importance of collaboration, innovation, and practical action. Ultimately, this strategy reflects a clear ambition: to lead responsibly, support the industry’s transition, and demonstrate that sustainability and long-term commercial success can go hand in hand, proving that progress is possible.
