The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has issued a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) affecting the Wicklow Mountains region for a five‑day period this week. The restriction will be in force from Monday, 9th March to Friday, 13th March 2026, operating daily between 0900 and 1700 UTC.
According to the IAA, the temporary restriction is required to facilitate low‑level military flight training in the area while ensuring the safety of all other airspace users. The TRA covers a substantial portion of the Wicklow Mountains, bounded by the following coordinates:
- 53°12’00” N, 006°23’56” W
- 53°10’12” N, 006°14’20” W
- 53°03’00” N, 006°14’24” W
- 53°03’00” N, 006°37’12” W
- 53°11’24” N, 006°32’24” W
- 53°12’00” N, 006°23’56” W
Vertical limits: Surface (SFC) to 4000 ft AMSL
Airspace classification: ICAO Class G
Only aircraft authorised by the Permanent Defence Forces may operate within the restricted area during activation. The restriction explicitly includes all aircraft, rockets and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drones). Any existing exemptions for civil or UAS operations do not apply in this temporary area. State aircraft, the Irish Coast Guard, and HEMS operators engaged in operational missions are exempt.
