Flight Restriction in the Vicinity of Inishbofin Island

The IAA has published details of a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) in the vicinity of Inishbofin Island, County Galway. The restriction applies to aircraft, rockets and drones.

Lateral limits:Circle radius of 2.70NM centred on 53º37’02.15”N 010º12’39.37” W  
Vertical limits:SFC to 3300 feet AMSL.  
Duration:The period of the restriction shall be daily from 0400hrs UTC to 2100hrs UTC from Wednesday 03rd June to Tuesday 30th June 2026 inclusive.

The purpose of the TRA is to ensure the air safety of aircraft due to multiple drone operations in the vicinity of Inishbofin Airfield, Co. Galway in the period cited. The airspace contained within the TRA is classified as ICAO Class G. The TRA is located within the Shannon Flight Information Region (FIR). The frequency for Irish Coastguard Service and HEMS, SAR and GA will be the FIS frequency – 127.5Mhz. For flights operating to and from the TRA, Air Traffic Services, as appropriate, are provided by AirNav Ireland at Shannon ACC.

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
