Galway Races Airspace Restrictions

A temporary restriction (Temporary Restricted Area) on the flying of aircraft and rockets including Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), shall apply in the vicinity of Galway Racecourse, Ballybrit, County Galway, in the airspace contained within the undermentioned:

Lateral limits:              Circle radius of 0.75NM centred on 53o 17’ 41” N, 008o 59’ 41” W.

Vertical limits:            SFC to 1500 feet AMSL

Duration:                    The period of the restriction shall be from 0900hrs UTC to 1900hrs UTC daily from Monday 29th July to Sunday 04th August 2024 inclusive.

The purpose of the TRA is to ensure the safety of aircraft operating to and from the Galway Racecourse and of other air traffic operating in the vicinity at Ballybrit, County Galway in the period cited.

The airspace contained within the TRA is classified as ICAO Class G. The TRA is located within the Shannon Flight Information Region (FIR). There is no dedicated communications service within the TRA or HAMMS. For flights operating to and from the TRA, Air Traffic Services, as appropriate, are provided by AirNav Ireland at Shannon ACC (AIP refers).

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
