Temporary Restricted Area – Abbeyleix Sunday 23rd June

The IAA has published details of a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) on Sunday 23rd June in the vicinity of Abbeyleix, County Laois. The purpose of the TRA is to ensure the safety of aircraft operating in the vicinity of Abbeyleix, Co, Laois in the period cited. The airspace contained within the TRA shall be classified as ICAO Class G. State aircraft, aircraft of the Irish Coastguard Service and HEMS Aircraft Operators employed on an operational mission shall be exempt from the restriction including Unmanned Aircraft Systems authorised by the controlling authority and State Unmanned Aircraft Systems. The details are as follows:

Lateral limits:             A circle radius of 2.0NM centred on: 52° 53′ 40″ N, 007° 22′ 09″ W

Vertical limits:            SFC to 2000FT AMSL

Duration:                    The period of the restriction shall be from 0900hrs UTC to 1700hrs UTC on Sunday 23rd June 2024.

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
