SMBC Deliver First MAX to Fly Dubai

SMBC Aviation Capital has today announced the delivery of the first Boeing 737-8MAX to FlyDubai. The aircraft, A6-FMQ (c/n 60992) is the first of seven to be delivered as part of a new deal. The aircraft will be delivered from the Boeing facilities in Seattle to Dubai via a stopover in Shannon. The remaining aircraft are scheduled for delivery in the coming months.

Recently, FlyDubai has announced that it will cut the number of Boeing 737-MAX that it will take from Boeing by 65. The airline has already taken delivery of 16 MAX jets out of its total order of 251. The airline’s statement said that “a review of fleet plans in line with the airline’s strategy of rebuilding the travel sector following the COVID-19 pandemic and the changing dynamics of the airline’s route structure.” Since starting operations in June 2009, the airline has grown its fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft to more than 50 and they were serving over 90 destinations before the pandemic.
