GECAS Agrees to Lease Two A320neo’s to Air Cairo

GECAS has agreed to lease two Airbus A320neo’s to Egypt’s Air Cairo with the first delivery has taken place in the past week. The second aircraft is expected to be delivered in early August. Air Cairo currently operates a fleet of seven Airbus A320’s and one A320neo which joined the fleet earlier this year. The low-cost airline launched flights in June 2012 and flies to cities across Central and Eastern Europe as well as the Middle East. It also operates many charters during the summer season to Egypt on behalf of Tour operators. The first aircraft delivered is a 2019 build that previously flew for InterJet in Mexico. SU-BUM (c/n 9056) was prepared for lease at Ostrava having been stored there during the pandemic.

Commenting on the deal, GECAS SVP & Regional Manager, Middle East, Africa and CIS, Mick O’Mahony said, “We are so pleased to welcome Air Cairo to the family of GECAS customers and are thrilled they will now operate Airbus’ A320neo powered with CFM’s LEAP engines. I’m confident Air Cairo will be putting these aircraft to exceptionally good use in their expanding EMEA network.”

Also commenting was the Chairman and CEO of Air Cairo, Hussein Sherif who added, “Adding these aircraft to our all-A320 fleet will provide Air Cairo with the much-needed capacity to meet the needs of our passengers. We’re excited to induct two more fuel-efficient A320neos and are grateful to the GECAS team for their support of our growing operations.”
