Barry Flannery Appointed as Chief Commercial Officer at SMBC
SMBC Aviation Capital has announced the appointment of Barry Flannery as Chief Commercial Officer. Barry joined the company in 1997 and was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2007. He has held a number of roles across the business, most recently being Chief Financial Officer. Prior to that he developed and led the aircraft trading team. Barry holds a degree in Psychology and Economics from Trinity College Dublin and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
Commenting on the appointment, Chief Executive Officer of SMBC, Peter Barrett said, “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Barry as our new Chief Commercial Officer and greatly look forward to working with him in the role. The creation of this position will help us better serve our customers by consolidating our relationship and asset side activities in one place. This role will make us more efficient and position us well for our next stage of growth.”
Also commenting on his new position Barry Flannery said, “It is an honour to have been appointed as the Chief Commercial Officer and I am excited to get started. As we have said previously, we believe that 2021 will be an inflection point for the industry and there are numerous commercial opportunities for SMBC Aviation Capital to capitalise on within a sector and wider industry that is changing at an unprecedented rate.”
The Chief Commercial Officer is a new role, reporting to the Chief Executive, that has been created to ensure SMBC Aviation Capital executes its growth plans. It will bring together all areas of commercial responsibility within the business, including customer relationships, asset management and the development of commercial strategy. Eithne Manning, who joined the company in 2005 and was previously Head of Funding, Finance and Tax has been appointed Acting Chief Financial Officer.
