New Routes from Knock to the UK
Ryanair has announced two new routes from Ireland West Airport Knock to Manchester and Edinburgh. The routes will start in September and will be operated on a twice weekly schedule. The service from Edinburgh to Knock will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays. Starting from 3rd September, the flights to Manchester will operate on Mondays and Fridays.
Commenting on the news, Joe Gilmore, Managing Director at Ireland West Airport said, “The airport was extremely disappointed to lose these two services last year following the ceasing trading of our longstanding partner Flybe and it has been our priority during the last 12 months to secure a replacement carrier for these services, given the importance and popularity of these markets. We thank Ryanair for their continued unwavering support for the airport in expanding their route network during what continues to be the most challenging period in the airport’s history, and indeed for aviation globally, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, this announcement reflects both the airport and our airline partners commitment to rebuilding and continuing to expand our route network and we are confident that with the support of our loyal customer base, Local Authority partners, stakeholders and Government, the airport will return to growth in the not too distant future when international travel recovers from the effects of COVID-19.”
While commercial flight activity has been quiet at the airport, EirTrade continues to be busy with their work of aircraft disassembly and asset management at the airport. The former Air France Airbus A380 that arrived in February 2020 has now been completely dismantled and all evidence of the aircraft has now been removed. The company continue to work on the Iberia A320’s and SAS Boeing 737 that arrived last year. They have been joined by two IndiGo Airlines Airbus A320’s that arrived during March for end of life work. 2005 built Airbus A320 VT-IHL (c/n 2626) arrived in Knock from Istanbul on the 16th March and its sister ship VT-IHK (c/n 2609) arrived on 24th March following a flight which took a routing from Delhi-Doha-Istanbul-Knock arriving shortly before 2.00 pm.
