Airspace Restrictions this Weekend for Donegal Rally

The IAA has published details of the airspace restrictions that will be in place from today until Sunday for the 2025 Donegal Rally. The purpose of the TRAs is to allow the Donegal Rally event to take place while safeguarding the safety of competitors and spectators from distraction or interference from aviation activities. There are 11 separate TRAs that will be active at various stages throughout the weekend.

Duration TRA 1 – 3 & 11: The period of the restriction shall be from 0600hrs UTC to 2100hrs UTC on Friday June 20th, 2025.

Duration TRA 4 – 6 & 10: The period of the restriction shall be from 0600hrs UTC to 2100hrs UTC on Saturday June 21st, 2025.

Duration TRA 7 – 9 & 10: The period of the restriction shall be from 0600hrs UTC to 2100hrs UTC on Sunday June 22nd 2025.

Flights by aircraft within the TRAs shall be restricted to operational search and rescue tasked by the Irish Coast Guard, State aircraft, emergency air ambulance aircraft, scheduled commercial air transport aircraft, including charter and cargo operations arriving/departing Donegal and City of Derry Airports, who are in receipt of an Air Traffic Service. State UAS operated by An Garda Síochána or the Permanent Defence Forces shall be exempt from this restriction.

All other flights are not permitted unless issued with a specific authorisation but the Flight Operations Department of the IAA. Details of how an authorisation can be obtained are included in the full notice here. Details of the individuals TRA’s have also been published by NOTAM.

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
