Daa, operator of Dublin Airport, has welcomed this week’s High Court judgement upholding An Bord Pleanála’s decision to grant permission for the construction of a vehicle underpass at Dublin Airport. The case was taken by Ryanair claiming that An Bord Pleanála failed to adequately consider the Government’s 2023 Climate Action Plan and obligations to carbon budgets and emission limits. Mr Justice Richard Humphreys dismissed the challenge in a judgment on Friday.
According to the daa: “The underpass is needed for growth and the safe and efficient running of the airport as it expands in the coming decades. The underpass will be in the middle of the airfield, underneath the crosswind runway [RW16/34] at Dublin Airport, and connect the Eastern Campus with the West Apron.”
This will improve access and safety on the airfield, allowing for the segregation of aircraft and vehicles, and the movement of vehicles to the West Apron, which has been restricted since the opening of the North Runway in August 2022.
