Restricted Airspace at Belfast Airport for Biden Visit

The UK CAA has published details of the Restricted Airspace around Belfast International Airport connected to the visit of US President Joe Biden on the 11th and 12th of April.

Between 1900 hours on the 11th of April and 2000 hours on the 12th of April, no aircraft is to fly below FL105 within the area of a circle having a radius of 13NM whose centre is at Belfast International Airport. The restrictions do not apply to aircraft:

  1. Flying in accordance with a permission issued by:
    • Belfast/Aldergrove International Airport under the control of the air traffic control unit at Belfast/Aldergrove International Airport
    • Belfast City Airport under the control of the air traffic control unit at Belfast City Airport
    • Prestwick Air Traffic Control Centre; or
    • The Police Service of Northern Ireland
  2. operated by:
    • The Police Service of Northern Ireland
    • The Maritime and Coastguard Agency; or
    • Air Ambulance Northern Ireland

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA.
