    Awarded an Air Corps Cadetship in 1974, he was awarded his Air Corps “Wings” in Sep 1976. Over the following decade he completed the Air Corps 20th Flying Instructors Course in 1980, and the 194 RAF Qualified Helicopter Instructors Course in RAF Shawbury on Gazelle helicopters in 1981, and became Chief Flying Instructor. 

    Overseas service brought Brig Gen Fly to the Western Sahara, serving as a Military Observer with the UN Observer Mission “MINURSO” from Oct 1995 to Apr 1996.

    Logging over 5,500 flying hours experience, split equally between fixed-wing and helicopters, Brig Gen Fry qualified for the award of Military Parachutists “Wings” in Sept 2001 and has completed 20 jumps. He has flown a wide variety of military and civil aircraft in his career and was the Project Officer responsible for the specification, evaluation, selection and purchase of the replacement training aircraft fleet of eight PC9M and the associated type flight simulator. He held the appointment of General Officer Commanding the Air Corps and Director of Military Aviation for seven years, from 2010 until his retirement in 2017.

    Mark Dwyer
    Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
