Vertical Aerospace, the UK-headquartered pioneer in electric aviation, has announced major progress in its Q3 2025 update, marking a pivotal moment for the company’s VX4 eVTOL aircraft program. The company has begun piloted transition flight test phase this week, a critical step toward full transition flights expected before year-end. This milestone underscores Vertical’s commitment to delivering certified, commercially viable electric aircraft.
The update also revealed first images of its certification aircraft cabin, which boasts the largest cabin in its class, designed for passenger comfort and operational flexibility. Configurations include a luxurious four-seat layout, a unique six-seat option, and an observer seat beside the pilot. The aircraft will feature a generous cargo hold and a payload capacity of over 550 kg.

Vertical’s business plan remains ambitious, targeting at least 175 aircraft deliveries by 2030, with annual production exceeding 225 units by Q4 that year. Financial goals include achieving a 20% gross margin by 2030 and positive operating cash flow surpassing $100 million.
Crucially for Irish aviation enthusiasts, Vertical Aerospace is chaired by Dómhnal Slattery, one of Ireland’s most influential figures in global aviation finance and former CEO of Avolon. Slattery emphasised that the new aircraft design “sets new benchmarks for scale, safety, and passenger experience,” positioning Vertical as a leader in advanced air mobility.
Upcoming milestones include:
- Piloted transition flight completion in Q4 2025
- Global reveal of the full-size aircraft design on 10 December in London
- Final assembly of Aircraft 3 in December, featuring eVTOL and hybrid variants
With approximately £89 million (€103 million) in cash reserves and a clear path to UK/European certification by 2028, Vertical Aerospace is well-positioned to redefine sustainable air travel. Its partnerships with industry giants like Honeywell and Aciturri, combined with proprietary battery and propeller technology, reinforce its leadership in the sector.
For Ireland, Slattery’s role ensures a strong connection to this transformative project, signalling opportunities for future collaboration in advanced air mobility.
