Emerald Airlines has reached a significant milestone with its successful registration under the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), reinforcing the carrier’s commitment to meeting the highest global standards in airline safety and operational performance. The achievement was confirmed on 5th February and marks an important step in the airline’s continued growth and professional development.
IOSA is widely regarded as the gold standard in airline safety auditing. Managed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the programme provides a globally recognised system for evaluating an airline’s operational management, compliance, and control systems. According to IATA, IOSA offers a harmonised, consistent, and internationally accepted audit structure that helps improve airline operational safety while reducing redundant audits across the industry.
First introduced in 2003, IOSA has become a core component of modern aviation safety oversight. It assesses operators across a broad range of functional areas from flight operations and dispatch to engineering, maintenance, cabin operations, ground handling, cargo, and security management. Participation in IOSA has been consistently linked with stronger safety records. Airlines on the IOSA registry have historically shown significantly lower accident rates compared to non‑IOSA carriers, underscoring the value and rigour of the programme.

As the airline industry increasingly adopts risk‑based auditing, this certification further positions Emerald Airlines as a trusted operator for franchise, ACMI, and codeshare partnerships. Under the newer risk-based IOSA approach, audits consider an operator’s history, operational profile, and specific safety risk areas, tailoring oversight more precisely and improving the effectiveness of the audit process.
For Emerald Airlines, which operates the Aer Lingus Regional network, the IOSA achievement reinforces its long‑term strategy of sustainable expansion, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. Established in 2021, the airline has grown rapidly, offering regional connectivity across Ireland, the UK, and France, as well as providing ACMI and charter services. The new certification bolsters its credentials as it continues to develop partnerships and broaden its operational capabilities.
