Emergency Preparedness Exercise at Dublin Weston Airport

Dublin Weston Airport (DWA) held an emergency preparedness exercise at the airport on 14th October 2025. DWA engaged Cuttle Consulting and 4Ward Planning to design and facilitate the exercise on their behalf. The scenario involved a helicopter making an uncontrolled landing off the runway. There were 4 people on board. 1 casualty walked away from the crash. 2 received serious injuries, and 1 was fatally injured. The airport ATC activated the emergency alarms and dispatched the Airport Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS) to the scene. Emergency calls were made to Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB), The National Ambulance Service (NAS) and An Garda Siochana (AGS).

DFB, along with Kildare Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) and AGS, attended the airport and participated in the exercise. Simultaneously, DWA activated their Crisis Management Team (CMT) to coordinate the response to the incident. The exercise was observed by the Irish Aviation Authority and the Air Accident Investigation Unit. A hot debrief was facilitated by Sean Ward and Paul Cuttle, who will draft a post-exercise report with all identified learning recommendations.
