TRA Announced for Electric Picnic

The IAA has published details of a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) for the Electric Picnic Festival that will take place in Stradbally, Co. Laois from Wednesday August 27th to Tuesday September 2nd, 2025. The details are as follows:

Lateral limits:Circle radius of 2.0 NM centred on 53º 00’ 33” N, 007º 09’ 58” W  
Vertical limits:SFC to 2000FT AMSL.  
Duration:The period of the restriction shall be from 0500hrs UTC on Wednesday August 27th to 0800hrs UTC on Tuesday September 2nd, 2025.

The purpose of the TRA, within which flight restrictions may apply, is to ensure the safety of aircraft operating into and out of the Electric Picnic Music Festival, Stradbally, Co. Laois and of other aircraft operating in the vicinity of the TRA in the period cited.

The airspace contained within the TRA is classified as ICAO Class G. The TRA is located within the Shannon Flight Information Region (FIR). There is no dedicated communications service within the TRA. For flights operating to and from the TRA, Air Traffic Services for the FIR are as published in the IAIP.

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
