Donal O’Shea Joins ABL Aviation as Chief Technical Officer

ABL Aviation has announced the appointment of Donal O’Shea as Chief Technical Officer. Based in Dublin, O’Shea will lead ABL Aviation’s global technical operations, focusing on enhancing the company’s asset management capabilities and supporting its long-term growth strategy.

With over 25 years of hands-on experience in the aviation industry, O’Shea brings a deep understanding of technical operations, asset management, and airworthiness. His career spans senior roles at leading organisations, where he built a reputation for delivering practical solutions to complex challenges.

Donal O’Shea has spent his career managing technical operations for diverse fleets and ensuring seamless transitions for leased aircraft:

  • At Avolon, O’Shea oversaw engineering and asset management for a fleet of more than 550 aircraft leased to 140+ airlines worldwide. He played a key role in large-scale projects, including aircraft trading and repossessions.
  • Earlier, at CAE Parc Aviation, he managed technical transitions, collaborating closely with airlines and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • O’Shea began his career as an Aircraft Engineer with Ryanair before moving to Cityjet, where he spent 11 years in senior maintenance roles, gaining first-hand experience in both Line and Base Maintenance operations.

In his role as CTO, Donal O’Shea will focus on optimising ABL Aviation’s technical operations to deliver even greater value to its clients. His priorities include ensuring the highest standards of fleet performance, supporting seamless aircraft transitions, and building processes that adapt to the fast-changing aviation landscape.

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
