Aer Lingus Regional Celebrates One Million Passengers at Belfast City Airport

Emerald Airlines, the largest operator out of Belfast City Airport and the operator of the Aer Lingus Regional network, celebrated a major milestone of flying over one million passengers through Belfast City Airport last week. This achievement comes less than two years after the carrier’s first flight from Belfast.   

Debbie Connolly, travelling on flight EI3652 from Belfast City Airport to Edinburgh was awarded two complimentary, roundtrip tickets to use anywhere on the Aer Lingus Regional route network.

Commenting on the announcement, Ian Lough, Head of Commercial at Emerald Airlines said: “This marks a significant milestone for us at Emerald Airlines. We began operating from Belfast City Airport less than two years ago and now to fly our one-millionth passenger in such a short time frame is an achievement we are extremely proud of. We would like to thank our customers, our partners at Belfast City Airport, along with our great team at Emerald Airlines, who have all made this milestone possible.

Since the commencement of our operations from Belfast City Airport, we have successfully developed the leading network connecting Northern Ireland and Great Britain. The success of our investment in the region is evident in the creation of 150 jobs and investing over £300 million to the local economy.”

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
