The 54th edition of the Paris Airshow took place this week. The Show is a trade fair and air show held in odd years at Paris–Le Bourget Airport in France and is the world’s largest aviation fair. The event is an opportunity for companies and start-ups to promote their knowledge and expertise in the fields of aeronautics and aerospace.
Enterprise Ireland hosted a stand at the show and also held an Irish reception as part of the show where the Ambassador of Ireland to France Niall Burgess had the opportunity to discuss the challenges facing the aeronautics and aerospace industries by speaking to a wide range of Irish companies who were exhibiting at the show. Irish representation was varied across the aviation sector and included drone pilot and operator training and certification centre Avtrain and Atlantic Aviation Group which is an independent aviation solutions company providing comprehensive maintenance, modification and support services to operators around the world.
Plasma Bound are an automation machinery manufacturing company that provides a step-change technology, termed Controlled Polymer Ablation (CPA), which facilitates the structural adhesive joining of lightweight materials, namely carbon and glass fibre-reinforced composites, were also exhibiting at the show. Another Irish manufacturing company at the show were Emerald Aero who are the Irish Aerospace Engineering Cluster at Emerald Aerospace and who supports the needs of the aerospace sector’s supply chain.
Irish aircraft leasing company Avolon were also at the show where they ordered 20 Airbus A330neo jets. The Dublin-based business has also upgraded an existing 50-strong order to the larger A321neo model from A320neo. Avolon also formally signed a deal at the show with Boeing for 40 737 Max 8 aircraft that the lessor announced back in April.
