Aer Lingus to be Partner Airline of Irish Paralympic Team
Aer Lingus has been announced as the Official Airline of Paralympics Ireland and will support Team Ireland as they prepare for and compete in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The two-year agreement sees Aer Lingus partner with Paralympics Ireland having supported athletes, coaches and officials throughout the postponed 2020 Tokyo Games. Aer Lingus will support Irish para-athletes to World Games in the lead up to qualification for the Paralympic Games and will also fly Team Ireland to the Paralympic Games, which take place in Paris from 28th August to 8th September 2024.
Irish athletes, six-time Paralympic gold medallist and fastest Paralympian of all-time Jason Smyth, swimming silver medallist Nicole Turner and powerlifting Paralympian Britney Arendse were joined at the launch by Aer Lingus CEO, Lynne Embleton and Paralympics Ireland Vice President, Lisa Clancy.
Commenting at the announcement, the CEO of Aer Lingus, Lynne Embleton said, ’’We are all proud of our para-athletes who give so much of themselves and commit so passionately to their chosen sport in order to qualify and compete in the Paralympic Games. Here in Aer Lingus, we want to play our part in their journey to Paris in 2024 and our ground staff, cabin crew and pilots will be bringing our team spirit to the preparations to make the Paralympians’ experience with Aer Lingus as special as possible. We want to ensure our para-athletes have the best opportunity by giving them top class care and service as they fly with us to international training camps and competitions over the next two years and as the entire Paralympics Ireland team board those all-important flights to Paris for the much anticipated 2024 Paralympic Games.”
Also commenting was the President of Paralympics Ireland, Eimear Breathnach who said, “The support of Aer Lingus will help our team to train, prepare and compete over the course of the next two years. In elite sport, the margins are so fine, and I know that having the support of a world-class airline like Aer Lingus is another important building block to our athletes realising and exceeding their goals for Paris.”
