Sale of Stobart Air Reported as Being Close

Speculation that the sale of the Stobart Air is imminent has increased when an Isle of Man based company, Ettyl Ltd., has confirmed that it is in advanced talks with Esken Ltd. Esken is the new name for the Stobart Group which confirmed last year that a sale of the airline and Carlisle Aiport in the UK were expected to be sold by February this year. While the deadline has slipped, the talks are continuing. In January 2021, Stobart Group announced that following shareholder approval, it would change its name to “Esken Limited” in February. Ettyl is an Isle of Man based airline that was set up in 2020 and is owned by businessman Jason Scales. It is believed that if the deal is successful, Ettyl would retain the former Stobart offices and staff at its current base in Dublin. Stobart still operates the Aer Lingus Regional franchise and have this contract runs until the end of 2022. Currently, they only operate the two Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes from Dublin to Kerry and Donegal along with six routes from Belfast City Airport to the UK.
