IAA Reports that Air Traffic was Down 63.3% in October
The IAA monthly report shows that air traffic was down 63.3% on October numbers from 2019. That was roughly the same decrease seen in September. Dublin airport recorded just 5,206 flights, a 74.5% decrease on the previous year. Shannon airport reported 557 flights, a 68% decrease in flights handled and Cork airport had just 365 movements during October, down 79.4% on 2019 figures. Transatlantic traffic saw a decrease of 64.1% in October 2020 to 15,889 compared to 44,260 in October 2019.
With the extended restrictions brought in for November and reductions in flight schedules by both Aer Lingus and Ryanair, the prospect of any increase in these numbers is unlikely in the short term. However, with the Irish Government adopting the European traffic light system for travel, hopes that some level of travel will return in December and pre travel COVID testing options becoming available.
