Air Astana Cadets Graduate at AFTA

Atlantic Flight Training Academy (AFTA), an Enterprise Ireland supported company, has successfully completed the training of a further 7 cadets to join Air Astanas modern fleet of Airbus A320/321 and Boeing 767 wide body aircraft at their Almaty and Astana bases in Kazakhastan. All training was completed in record time 2 months ahead of schedule at AFTA’s base at Cork International airport.


Capt. Mark Casey, CEO Atlantic Flight Training Academy and Head of Pilot Training, said “Since our foundation in 1995, AFTA have trained over 1,800 high-calibre graduate pilots for the industry, in our modern fleet of Cessna and Piper aircraft, as well as, investing in the latest flight training equipment and advanced training technology, including state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800NG and FNPT II fixed base simulators. We are delighted that our commitment to advanced cadet training and safety is delivering the next generation of airline pilots to an industry leading airline like Air Astana.”

Capt. Talgat Akhmetov, Chief Liaison officer for Air Astana cadets at AFTA said “We are delighted to see the cadets complete their training in record time and to the consistent standard delivered by AFTA.We see the advantages of training in one location with European weather and a very high standard of radio[RT] discipline and training standards addressing the core competencies required to operate in the advanced environment of a multi crew cockpit of a modern airliner.The training environment at Cork is superb and the students are exposed to a complex ATC environment from the commencement of their training which instils a high level of discipline. I would like to thank the cadets for all their hard work and commitment to the course. These cadets are a credit to Air Astana and to Kazakhstan. We are delighted to see them returning to the airline to join their respective fleet.”

Amongst those attending the event were Captain John Murray IAA, Captain Niall Cummins, Chief Flight Examiner IAA, Captain Talgat Akhmetov Chief liaison officer for Air Astana cadets at AFTA and a current Air Astana A320 Captain. Captain Daniel Lynch, Chief Flying Instructor AFTA, Captain Mark Casey, Head of training AFTA, Captain Kyle Johnston Training Manager AFTA and Claire Costello AFTA Sales & Marketing Manager.
