General aviation pilots, aircraft owners and aviation enthusiasts are being invited to attend a General Aviation Safety Evening hosted by the General Aviation Safety Council of Ireland (GASCI) later this month at Weston Airport.
The interactive safety evening will take place at Weston Airport, Dublin, on Friday, 23rd October, beginning at 19:30. Organisers say the event will provide an opportunity for members of the aviation community to hear from industry experts and discuss some of the key safety issues currently affecting general aviation operations in Ireland.
This year’s safety evening will focus on two important topics as pilots prepare for the challenges of the winter flying season:
- Conspicuity and the importance of making aircraft more visible to other airspace users.
- Winter Operations, including seasonal hazards, weather considerations and practical risk management for pilots operating during the colder months.
GASCI has long promoted the sharing of safety information and best practice across the Irish aviation community, with its safety evenings serving as valuable forums for discussion and learning. The meetings typically bring together private pilots, instructors, flying clubs, aircraft owners, regulators and other stakeholders with a shared interest in improving safety standards.
As daylight hours shorten and weather conditions become increasingly challenging, the timing of the event provides an ideal opportunity for pilots to refresh their knowledge and consider the additional risks associated with winter flying. Topics such as reduced visibility, deteriorating weather conditions, aircraft performance, pilot decision-making and collision avoidance remain key areas of focus within the general aviation sector.
The event is expected to be interactive, encouraging attendees to contribute their own experiences and lessons learned. Such discussions have consistently proven to be among the most valuable elements of previous GASCI safety evenings, helping pilots translate safety principles into practical actions.
Attendance is open to the wider general aviation community, and pilots operating in all areas of recreational and private aviation are encouraged to take part.
