General aviation pilots are being advised of a new Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) that will be in force around Dublin City and County on Saturday, 12 September 2026 in connection with the visit of US President Donald Trump. The restriction, published by the Irish Aviation Authority, will affect a significant portion of airspace east of Dublin and extends from the surface up to 5,000 feet AMSL.
The TRA will be active from 0630 UTC until 1230 UTC on Saturday morning and has been established by the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration for security reasons. The restricted area covers much of the Dublin coastal region and surrounding airspace east and south-east of the capital. During the activation period, the airspace within the TRA will be classified as ICAO Class C and will remain within the Dublin CTR/CTA and Shannon FIR.
Air Force 1 is planned to touch down on the South Runway at Dublin Airport at 08:30L. Following a visit to the US Ambassadors Residence in the Phoenix Park, he will depart from Dublin to Shannon at 12:35L.
Under the restrictions, only a limited number of aircraft operations will be permitted. These include State aircraft, Irish Coast Guard aircraft, HEMS operators on operational missions, flights specifically authorised by the controlling authority, scheduled commercial traffic operating to and from Dublin Airport, and scheduled commercial arrivals and departures at Weston Airport together with SAR flights.
All other aircraft operations will be prohibited within the TRA unless specifically authorised by the controlling authority. The notice also confirms that any general exemptions or permissions previously granted by the IAA for civil general air traffic will not be valid within the restricted area while the TRA is active.
Pilots planning flights in the Dublin region on Saturday morning are strongly advised to review the associated NOTAM when published and ensure that their intended route remains clear of the restricted airspace. Operators seeking further information or permission to enter the TRA should contact the controlling authority via coflights@justice.ie.
Please note that the IAA chart is very poorly produced and is completely unsuitable for use. The chart also includes old frequencies for aerodromes that are no longer in use. Pilots are encouraged to reference moving map technology for accurate and up to date information (SkyDemon / easyVFR)
