Dublin-based aircraft lessor Avolon has expanded its long-standing relationship with India’s Akasa Air, agreeing a sale and leaseback transaction covering up to seven Boeing 737-8200 aircraft. The agreement will support the rapid growth of the Indian carrier as it continues to expand its fleet and network in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.
The latest transaction marks a further milestone in the partnership between the two companies, a relationship that dates back to Akasa Air’s launch. The additional aircraft will enable the airline to continue meeting growing passenger demand across India and beyond while benefiting from the efficiency gains offered by Boeing’s newest-generation narrowbody aircraft.
The Boeing 737-8200 is the highest-capacity version of the 737-8 MAX family and has become increasingly popular with airlines seeking lower operating costs and improved environmental performance. The aircraft offers enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions compared with previous-generation narrowbody jets, making it an attractive option for fast-growing carriers such as Akasa Air.
Commenting on the agreement, Ramón Stortini, Managing Director, Middle East, Africa and South Asia at Avolon, said the company was pleased to deepen its relationship with Akasa Air. “We are delighted to expand our partnership with Akasa Air through this transaction, a relationship that dates back to the very launch of the airline. India remains one of the most compelling growth markets in global aviation, supported by strong economic fundamentals and increasing demand for air travel.”
The deal represents the third transaction between Avolon and Akasa Air, underlining the confidence both organisations have in the Indian aviation sector and in Akasa’s long-term growth plans.
Priya Mehra, Chief of Governance and Strategic Acquisitions at Akasa Air, highlighted the significance of the continued partnership. “We are pleased to further strengthen our partnership with Avolon through this third transaction, adding seven Boeing 737-8200 aircraft to our fleet. This continued collaboration is a testament to our shared long-term conviction in Akasa Air’s growth trajectory and the strength of the Indian aviation market.”
For Avolon, headquartered in Dublin and one of the world’s leading aircraft leasing companies, the transaction reinforces its commitment to supporting airline growth in key global markets. As of 30 June 2026, the company reported an owned, managed and committed fleet of 1,117 aircraft and worked with 138 airlines across 60 countries.
