Shannon Airport passengers are set to benefit from an additional 200,000 seats available on select routes from the airport this summer. Shannon will have increased frequencies on nine services including popular sunshine destinations such as Alicante, Faro, Malaga, and Lanzarote. The airport will operate 33 routes to 11 countries across the EU, UK, and the United States. A Gran Canaria service with Ryanair will also operate from Shannon during the summer season for the first time. As the airport gears up for the start of a new daily service to New York-JFK with Delta, due to start on the 25th of May, travelling to the United States from Shannon is now easier than ever before. Earlier this year, the airport introduced an innovative Mobile Passport Control app (MPC). MPC is a free mobile app*, designed to streamline the traveller’s entry process into the United States by allowing them to complete part of the pre-clearance process prior to their arrival at the airport. This new technology, in addition to Shannon’s time-saving US Preclearance facility and combined EU/TSA checkpoint system, ensure an efficient and comfortable transatlantic travel experience for passengers.
Through the busy holiday period, the airport team will work tirelessly to provide a seamless passenger experience from the moment customers enter the car park, right through to departure. Shannon’s hi-tech security screening technology ensures passengers experience less dwell time going through security, meaning they have more time to relax and browse the vast product offerings in the renowned Shannon Duty Free.

For passengers who require extra assistance, Shannon Airport offers a sensory room for travellers with neurodevelopmental challenges, including autism. Shannon was the first airport in Europe to open a sensory room in 2017. Since then, it has been used extensively, providing a relaxing environment for child and adult passengers ahead of their flight. The airport team are passionate about making travel easier for everybody and also offer familiarisation tours for customers with additional needs, including an opportunity to come and tour the airport with a member of staff ahead of departure day to ensure they are comfortable with the airport process when they do arrive for their journey. Shannon Airport is a World Health Organisation (WHO) Age-Friendly Airport, a world first. This recognises Shannon’s commitment to enhancing the airport’s accessibility and usability for older passengers. This was achieved through the provision of additional facilities for passengers such as age-friendly parking, clear signage, and covered walkways from aircraft and car parking into the terminal.
Commenting ahead of the busy summer season, the CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, Mary Considine said: “We are expecting a busy summer at Shannon Airport, with over 200,000 additional seats and increased frequencies on nine favourite summer sun destinations. What sets Shannon apart is our passionate staff, who are excited to extend the famous warm Shannon welcome to every passenger that passes through our doors. On behalf of all the team, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their loyal support and encourage people to think Shannon first when planning those all-important sunshine breaks over the coming months.”
