Dublin based Avia Solutions Group has stared development of 20,000 sq.m. MRO Hangar in the Dominican Republic. Avia Solutions Group continues its expansion in Latin America with the Group’s subsidiary FL Technics, a leading aircraft maintenance solutions company, which has started the establishment of new MRO infrastructure in the Dominican Republic at Punta Cana International Airport. In addition to this new facility, FL Technics has base maintenance hangars in Lithuania (Vilnius and Kaunas International Airports), the United Kingdom (London, Stansted International Airport), Scotland (Prestwick International Airport), and Indonesia (Jakarta International Airport). The company manages the total hangar space of 86,000 sq. m.
The first stage of the Punta Cana hangar construction process is planned to take up to two years, and once completed, the facilities will include 5 bays for base maintenance operations including a complex of full-fledged supporting shops. It is planned that to support growing operations, the hangar will be expanded to include 12 bays in total. The facility, including the hangar and bays, will have a size of 20,000 sq. m., and the total area of the new infrastructure will be 52,000 sq. m.
Commenting on the new project, the CEO of Avia Solutions Group, Jonas Janukenas said, “To ensure the necessary infrastructure for our global ACMI airlines, we have decided to invest in MRO facilities in the Caribbean. Our aim is to ensure that our group’s aircraft flying in the counter-seasonal areas of Latin America, Asia, and Australia can reach the repair hangars within 4 hours.”
Also commenting was the CEO of FL Technics, Zilvinas Lapinskas who added, “This strategic expansion marks our first physical base for maintenance in this region, complementing the established FL Technics operations in the Americas, which already include a line maintenance network in Canada. This decision represents a significant investment, underscoring our commitment to offering comprehensive MRO solutions, creating a strong foundation for long-term partnerships and other future developments in the continent.”
The hangar at Punta Cana airport is not the first project for Avia Solutions Group in Latin America. The group recently announced that its subsidiary Avion Express is setting up ACMI Airlines in Brazil to better serve its long-standing customers in Colombia, Chile, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic. The Irish-based company Avia Solutions Group operates a fleet of 180 aircraft. It has more than 100 subsidiaries and operates in 68 countries worldwide, supported by a team of 11,500 highly qualified professionals.
