Ryanair had its busiest month ever in June carrying nearly 16 million passengers across the network. The airline operated over 88,500 flights in June as its load factor rose from 92% in May to 95% in June as the summer holiday period across Europe kicks in. The 15.9 million passengers carried in June was an increase from the 15.4 million carried in May. The airline had carried just 5.4 million in June 2021 when there were extensive travel restrictions in place across Europe due to the pandemic.
Ryanair is expecting to carry around 15% more passengers during the summer than it did during the summer of 2019, the last summer prior to the pandemic. The airline continues to increase its passenger numbers and is expecting to carry a record 165 million passengers in the 12 months to March 2023. The previous record was 149 million passengers before the pandemic.
Ryanair has recently welcomed the outcome of the ballot on post-Covid pay restoration for the airlines UK pilots, which will accelerate pay restoration and deliver pay increases post-restoration to 2026. This new accelerated deal also provides for pay enhancements and other benefits beyond the full restoration of pay for Ryanair’s UK pilots until 2026.
Ryanair cabin crew based in Spain have announced 12 days of industrial action during July in a demand for better working conditions. The strikes come as staff in Belgium, Spain, Portugal, France and Italy had taken strike action in late June and early July but a spokesperson for the airline said less than 2% of its flights scheduled had been affected.
