Irish Historic Flight Shannon Aviation Museum Special Guest Talk

The Shannon Aviation Museum (SAM) has announced its next special guest talk, taking place on Saturday 20th June, with representatives from the Irish Historic Flight (IHF) set to share stories from one of Ireland’s most active aviation heritage organisations.

The talk will be delivered by Helen Hennessy, Paul McDermott and Declan Curtis, who together will give a general and light‑hearted overview of the Irish Historic Flight’s work. Topics on the day will include the organisation’s background, its growing fleet of historic aircraft, current restoration projects, and plans for the next 12 months.

A particular highlight of the talk will be discussion around the restoration of De Havilland Chipmunk 168, including its impressive performance during the IAC Centenary celebrations in 2022. Attendees can also expect insight into the challenges and rewards of keeping historic military aircraft flying in modern-day Ireland.

Founded in 2014, the Irish Historic Flight is dedicated to preserving Ireland’s aviation heritage through the operation of historic, airworthy aircraft. The organisation plays a prominent role at aviation events nationwide, helping to showcase Ireland’s rich aviation story to both enthusiasts and the wider public.

As with all SAM guest talks, admission is free, but booking is essential due to limited capacity. Tickets will be released via the Shannon Aviation Museum website in the coming weeks. For those with an interest in historic aviation, aircraft restoration, or Ireland’s aviation past, this promises to be an engaging and informative event.
