IAT Leasing Acquires Ten Airbus A330 Freighters on Lease to Amazon Air

Dublin-based IAT Leasing has expanded its managed portfolio with the acquisition of ten Airbus A330 freighters currently operating for Amazon Air. The aircraft, flown by Alaska Airlines, were purchased from funds managed by Altavair and acquired on behalf of Blue Owl Capital, with financing provided by MUFG. IAT will oversee lease administration and asset management for the fleet.

The deal marks IAT’s first major move into widebody freighters and establishes a new relationship with Amazon Air while deepening existing partnerships with Alaska Airlines and Blue Owl. It follows the companies’ joint decision earlier this year to participate in Rolls‑Royce’s LessorCare+ programme, supporting long‑term engine management for their A330 fleet.

IAT CEO Martin Browne described the acquisition as “transformative,” noting that adding ten A330 converted freighters “positions IAT as a major lessor of freighter aircraft globally” and strengthens the platform’s scale and diversification.

Blue Owl’s Daniel Rosato highlighted the attractiveness of the A330 freighter market, saying the type is expected “to power the cargo market for decades to come,” while MUFG’s Tye Holmes praised the strong collaboration that enabled the structured financing to be delivered on a tight timeline.

Legal advisors on the transaction included Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and Matheson LLP for the buyers, Milbank LLP for the seller, and Watson Farley & Williams for the lender.
