Aviation Leaders Series with Andy Cronin, CEO of Avolon

The latest episode of the Aviation Leaders series features an in-depth conversation between Andy Cronin, CEO of Avolon, and James Kelly, Head of Aviation Finance at KPMG. Andy shares how Avolon is managing a $35 billion balance sheet and $35 billion in capital commitments, supported by the largest order book for new technology aircraft. He explores the factors driving 5% demand growth in aviation, from premium travel in the US to low-cost carriers in Asia-Pacific and the resurgence of long-haul routes. The discussion also addresses ongoing supply chain challenges – particularly with engines and cabin components – and the impact on lease rates, which are rising by 7% annually for wide-body aircraft. Andy emphasises Avolon’s strategic focus on modern, efficient aircraft and the importance of engine durability and maintenance costs. Finally, he reflects on the industry’s resilience and the growing influence of Asian investment in aviation.
