Shannon Airport Group Seeks New Chief Executive Officer

The Shannon Airport Group has announced a major leadership opportunity, inviting applications for the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Based at Shannon Airport, the successful candidate will lead one of the country’s key economic drivers, overseeing both aviation operations and a substantial commercial property portfolio.

The CEO will work closely with the Board to deliver the current strategy and shape long-term plans aimed at boosting regional economic growth through aviation and property development. Key responsibilities include stakeholder engagement at government level, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, and driving sustainable expansion across all business units.

Applicants must demonstrate proven strategic leadership experience in complex organisations, strong people management skills, and the ability to influence policy at regional or national level. Knowledge of regulated industries, transport sectors, or aviation will be advantageous.

Former Shannon Airport Group CEO Mary Considine, who departed the role in August to become CEO of Iarnród Éireann

This recruitment follows the departure of Mary Considine, who served as CEO for six transformative years. Appointed in 2019 after a distinguished three-decade career in aviation, Considine steered Shannon Airport Group through strategic investment, pandemic resilience, and record passenger growth. Under her leadership, the Group strengthened its role as a driver of regional development, supporting over 20,000 jobs and contributing €4 billion to the Irish economy. In August 2025, she stepped down to become CEO of Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail), leaving a legacy of innovation and growth that will be long remembered.

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
