Planning Permission Granted for Pier 1 Extension at Dublin Airport

Fingal County Council have granted planning permission for an extension to Pier 1 at Dublin Airport, which is primarily used by Ryanair. The extension will effectively put an upstairs on the existing boarding area for gates 118 and 119, with the entire development adding two new gates. Apron works earlier this year involved the creation of new stands at the end of Pier 1.

The original proposal from the daa said: “The purpose of this project is to improve the passenger experience and operations efficiency of the airport. The proposal will reduce the overall number of shared gates in Pier 1 and provide additional space for passengers. This will be achieved through a new single storey extension (approx 1080sqm) of Pier 1 West with a new cantilever connection to two external vertical circulation cores and new plant area at roof level with comms and electrical rooms and enclosed plant area and all associated site development works.”

daa have said the extension will lead to fewer last-minute changes, reducing delays, and providing a better product for passengers. It will also result in less holding, reduced congestion on the ramp and reduced fuel burn, leading to a simple and more efficient operation for Dublin Airport and ground staff due to the consistency of gate layout.

The permission was granted with eight conditions, which generally refer to the construction phase of the extension.
