City of Derry Air Ambulance Runway Run

Registration is now open for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland’s 5k Runway Run at City of Derry Airport on Saturday 5th April. Runners will arrive between 6.30 pm – 7.00 pm for warm-up & security and the run will start at 8.00 pm. This is a flat and fast-paced 5k race, offering a great opportunity for personal bests as well as prizes for first, second and third in both female and male categories.

As well as the extremely unique experience of running a Runway, the £25 entry includes: 

  • Air Ambulance branded tech top 
  • Bespoke finishers medal 
  • Chip timed results 
  • Pre-event visit to Air Ambulance operational airbase 
  • Support to help your fundraising journey including online fundraising link, tips on the best fundraising activities to organise, and supporting materials such sponsor forms, buckets, banners, balloons and much more. Anyone who reaches £100 fundraising target will be entered into a draw for a range of prizes. 
  • On the night:  Entertainment and warm up before race, water & snacks, FREE parking

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
