AFTA Instructor / Examiner Refresher Seminars

Atlantic Flight Training Academy based in Cork are planning a Flight Instructor Refresher Seminar and an Examiner Refresher Seminar. Both are available to attend in person or via Zoom.

Flight Instructor Refresher Seminar

The two-day flight instructor refresher seminar will take place on 20th and 21st of June. To revalidate or renew a Flight Instructor Certificate, holders must meet the requirements of FCL.940.FI. To revalidate, instructors must meet two of three of the following requirements:

  1. Completed at least 50 hours of flight instruction in the appropriate aircraft category as FIs, TRIs, CRIs, IRIs, MIs or examiners
  2. completed instructor refresher training as an FI at an ATO or at the competent authority.
  3. have passed an assessment of competence in accordance with point FCL.935 in the period of 12 months immediately preceding the expiry date of the FI certificate.

For each alternate revalidation, an FI must pass an assessment of competence (3). The flight instructor refresher seminar meets the requirements of point 2.

Examiner Refresher Seminar

The one-day Examiner Refresher Seminar will take place on the 5th of July. In order to revalidate or renew an Examiner Certificate, the hold must meet the requirements of FCL.1025. To revalidate the certificate, this involves:

  1. before the expiry date of the certificate, have conducted at least six skill tests, proficiency checks or assessments of competence
  2. in the period of 12 months immediately preceding the expiry date of the certificate, have completed an examiner refresher course which is provided by the competent authority or which is provided by an ATO and approved by the competent authority;
  3. One of the checks in point 1 must be observed by an Inspector from the Competent Authority or Senior Examiner in the 12 months immediately preceding the expiry date of the examiner certificate.

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
