Limerick Flying Club 75th Anniversary Fly-In

Saturday 27th of August marked the 75th anniversary of the opening of Coonagh Airfield by Arthur George Toppin, way back in 1947. To mark the occasion, Limerick Flying Club held a Fly-In after a gap of 5 years. The event attracted a really nice mix of aircraft from various aerodromes including; Cork, Brittas, Fethard, Kilkenny, Galway, Limetree, Clonbullogue & Ballyboy (see photos). On Sunday morning, the 28th, to mark the occasion, the GOC, Irish Air Corps, Brigadier General Rory O’ Connor presented the club with a beautiful 1st edition print of some of the aircraft that have served in the Irish Air Corps over the years. There were some more visitors who flew in on Sunday making for quite a bit of activity at the club when mixed in with the normal Student and PPL flights. All in all, it was a very nice weekend for the members & friends of the Airfield and the flying club.

Thank you to Michael Lillis for supplying the photos.
