Aircraft Movements for August Still Significantly Down Year on Year

The Irish Aviation Authority has published Irish and trans-Atlantic air traffic figures for the month of August 2020 and a comparison with the same period in 2019. The highlights include:

  • A total of 39,691 flights handled in August 2020 v 113,606 movements in August 2019
  • Commercial traffic at State airports was down by 65.1% in August 2020 compared to August 2019
  • Trans-Atlantic traffic handled down 68.9% in August 2020 compared to same month in 2019
  • En-Route traffic (flights which do not land in Ireland) down 66.6% v August 2019

State airport commercial traffic in August 2020:

  • Dublin Airport recorded 7,786 flights, a 65.2% decrease;
  • Cork airport traffic saw 732 movements, down 68%; 
  • Shannon airport reported 725 flights, a 60.7% decrease in movements.

About the Author

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
