Irish Skies Pod – Remembering 9/11 – An Irish aviation experience

In this episode we commemorate the 25th anniversary of events and the victims of the 9/11 attacks in 2001. With some of the people who were on duty that day, we look back at how the Shannon Air Traffic Controllers, the Shanwick Oceanic Radio Officers and the Shannon Airport staff managed this unimaginable event. Almost 100 Westbound trans-Atlantic flights, already in Oceanic Airspace and beyond Radar and VHF coverage, were turned back towards Irish Airspace where their own flights, heading towards the Oceanic boundary, were also being turned around.
