Pilots and aviation enthusiasts are invited to Lough Sheelin Airfield this August for a fly-in gathering on the shores of one of Ireland’s most scenic lakes, with all proceeds supporting local cancer support services.
Following the success of previous events and strong interest from the aviation community, Lough Sheelin Airfield, Tonagh, Co. Cavan, will host its August Fly-In on Sunday, 16th August 2026, from 1:00pm to 6:00pm (weather permitting).
Sponsored by Sheelin Boats, the event welcomes light aircraft, helicopters, floatplanes and STOL aircraft, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy a unique flying destination on the Cavan-Meath border.
Situated beside the River Inny on the eastern shore of beautiful Lough Sheelin, the grass strip provides a picturesque setting for a relaxed day of flying while raising funds for a worthwhile local cause. In keeping with the charitable nature of the event, donations are requested in lieu of a landing fee.
Pilots are asked to make a radio call approximately five miles from the airfield and to avoid low flying over nearby residences. Any non-standard circuit procedures or aerobatic manoeuvres should be conducted over the lake. A safety boat will be on standby throughout the event, and Mogas will be available on site.
The flying activities will be followed by live entertainment, with music commencing from 4:00pm. Performers include The Stinging Kings, Happy Inc Blues, and a selection of local artists, with music and sing-alongs continuing into the evening. Overnight camping can be arranged by contacting the airfield in advance.
