AerCap Women in Aviation Scholarship Programme

AerCap’s Women in Aviation Scholarship Programme continues to make a significant impact by encouraging and empowering future female engineers to pursue careers in the aviation industry. Now in its seventh year, the initiative provides vital financial support, mentorship, and professional experience to first‑year students of the University of Limerick’s Bachelor of Engineering in Aeronautical Engineering.

Each scholarship recipient receives a bursary of €5,000 per academic year throughout the four‑year programme, along with an internship at AerCap, offering invaluable exposure to the aviation leasing sector and hands‑on learning alongside industry experts.

AerCap leaders have repeatedly emphasised that the goal of the programme is to foster a strong, diverse pipeline of engineering talent and to encourage more women to consider aviation and STEM pathways. “Through this initiative, we aim to encourage more women to pursue engineering programmes, fostering a pipeline of diverse, highly skilled talent to support the future growth of the aviation industry,” said Denise Mangan‑Fahy, Head of Engine Portfolio & Rental Operations at AerCap, following the announcement of last year’s winner.

Sarah Hartnett, Director of Development at the University of Limerick Foundation, has also highlighted the transformative effect the programme has had since its inception, noting its role in helping female students “reach their full potential in the aviation industry.”

The scholarship has grown steadily, with multiple recipients each year and increasing visibility thanks to ongoing collaboration between AerCap, UL’s Faculty of Aeronautical Engineering, and supporters who champion the importance of greater representation of women in STEM disciplines.

With AerCap’s continued investment, the Women in Aviation Scholarship Programme is not only reducing barriers for aspiring female engineers but also shaping the next generation of aviation professionals who will contribute meaningfully to Ireland’s role in global aerospace.
