Irish Skies Pod is a new YouTube Channel created for front-line aviation professionals to increase communication across the aviation industry, increase awareness of one-another jobs towards increasing awareness of potential safety critical issues and actions to eradicate same. The channel is produced by Mick Campbell who is an Air Traffic Controller.
Episode 1 was launched this week and looks at the events surrounding the forced landing at Mallow Racecourse by a Gulfstream 2, XA-FOU in 1983. The story is described by the Shannon Controller and the Captain of the flight.
A fog bank rolled off the estuary over Shannon Airport as XA-FOU was on approach. With the aircraft running low on fuel and the visibility remaining below minima the crew and the Controller needed to come up with an alternative. You can watch the first episode below.
