The Dublin City University Business School has announced that Chloe Smith, a fourth-year Aviation Management student at the school, has become the first-ever recipient of the daa Scholarship
Presented earlier this month, the scholarship recognises Chloe’s outstanding academic performance, with the highest marks achieved in her third-year assignments. Chloe has long dreamed of becoming a pilot, a passion that began in childhood. “I’ve always wanted to be a pilot; I don’t remember ever wanting to do anything else. Going on holidays as a child, the airport was always the fun part for me.”
Her journey with DCU began when she chose the BSc in Aviation Management, a programme that combines aviation theory, management, and hands-on experience. Through the course’s INTRA internship, Chloe spent seven months with Air Nav Ireland, gaining invaluable insight into air traffic management and the broader aviation industry.
“The course really offers something for everyone, whether you want to go into piloting, air traffic control or aviation business. I’ve loved my time in DCU; it’s a close-knit community and we’ve made great memories through the DCU Aviation Society.”
Looking ahead, Chloe hopes to continue her studies and eventually pursue pilot training, with the dream of flying transatlantic routes for Aer Lingus. “I’d like to say a huge thank you to the daa for my scholarship. It was a proud moment to be recognised for my work — and it’s motivated me to push myself even further.”
