Last August the IAA published details of a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) near Bangor Erris in Co. Mayo. The TRA was extended in November and was due to take effect until 23:00 hours on Tuesday 20th February 2024. It has now been extended again until Monday 20th May 2024 at 23:00. The TRA is located southwest of the village at 54° 07′ 33.1” N, 009° 46′ 59.5″ W and extends in a radius of 0.6NM from the surface to 3100ft AMSL. The TRA is operated by a company called Enevate BV, a Dutch company that are developing kites that generate electricity as an alternative to wind turbines.
The TRA will remain Class G airspace for the duration and will apply to all aircraft including drones. State aircraft, aircraft of the Irish Coastguard Service and HEMS Aircraft Operators employed on an operational mission shall be exempt from the restriction. More details are available here.
