CDB Aviation Delivers TAROM’s Inaugural Boeing 737-MAX8

CDB Aviation has announced the delivery of an inaugural Boeing 737-MAX8 to The Romanian National Air Transport Company (“TAROM”). The delivery represents the introduction of the 737-MAX8 to TAROM’s fleet, marking an important step in its operational development. The Bucharest-headquartered airline plans to add a total of four 737-MAX8 aircraft, which are being acquired through operating and finance leases. The first two aircraft are being leased from CDB Aviation, with the second aircraft expected to be delivered to the airline this Autumn.

Fleet renewal is one of the main pillars of TAROM’s restructuring plan, with objectives focused on optimising routes, increasing operational efficiency, and improving the passenger experience. With the introduction of this new-generation model, TAROM is adding aircraft to its fleet that are designed for technical performance, enhanced comfort, and a lower environmental impact. The 737-MAX8 model complements TAROM’s fleet, providing operational consistency and increased efficiency, while reducing fuel consumption and emissions by 20% compared to other models. As part of its fleet renewal program, TAROM will use the new aircraft for flights to major European capitals. The aircraft, YR-BGO, departed from Boeing Field in Seattle on the 7th of September and arrived at its new base in Bucharest the following evening following a stopover in Iceland.

Commenting on the delivery, CDB Aviation’s Head of Commercial, EMEA, Gavan Daly, said, “We are delighted to support TAROM as it takes delivery of its first 737-8 and continues its fleet modernisation strategy. This delivery underscores our long-standing partnership with Boeing and our commitment to providing TAROM with efficient, state-of-the-art aircraft that enhance operational performance and offer a better experience for passengers.”

Also commenting was the TAROM CEO, Cristian Anghel “The addition of the first Boeing 737-8 aircraft to the TAROM fleet is a pivotal moment in the company’s transformation process. Fleet renewal and increased operational capacity are essential components of our restructuring plan, enabling us to achieve operational efficiency. By integrating this model into our fleet, TAROM offers its passengers a superior travel experience. The fact that the aircraft bears the name of Mircea Lucescu also adds a symbolic dimension: we are talking about performance, discipline, and trust—values that also define this new chapter for TAROM. This aircraft’s advanced technology and low environmental footprint align perfectly with our vision for sustainable operations and our commitment to maintaining a young, state-of-the-art fleet that connects Romania to the world,”
