SMBC Aviation Capital Completes Landmark A320neo Sale‑and‑Leaseback Deal with Lufthansa

SMBC Aviation Capital has marked a significant milestone with the completion of a landmark sale‑and‑leaseback transaction involving six Airbus A320neo aircraft for Lufthansa, Europe’s largest airline group. The lessor announced the deal as part of its ongoing strategy to expand and diversify transaction types with long‑standing partners.

The agreement represents a new form of collaboration between SMBC Group and Lufthansa, complementing an already strong relationship built over years of leased aircraft placements and JOLCO financing work. According to SMBC Aviation Capital, the transaction underscores both organisations’ shared commitment to long‑term strategic partnerships in the global commercial aviation sector.

Key representatives present for the signing included Matthias Eck, Director Aircraft Finance at Lufthansa; Markus Ohlert, Head of Corporate Aircraft Finance at Lufthansa; Kaiori Creed, Senior Vice President Airline Marketing at SMBC Aviation Capital; and Conor Stafford, Head of Airline Marketing at SMBC Aviation Capital. The companies noted that they look forward to further strengthening their relationship in the years ahead.

This latest transaction comes as the A320neo family continues to be one of the most in‑demand narrowbody platforms worldwide, offering airlines improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and strong operating economics—factors that continue to align with Lufthansa’s fleet renewal strategy and SMBC Aviation Capital’s focus on young, technologically advanced aircraft.
