City of Derry Airport has announced the return of the Air Ambulance Northern Ireland (AANI) 5K Runway Run, taking place on Saturday, 25th April 2026, offering participants the rare chance to run or walk on the airport’s runway after flight operations conclude for the evening.
The charity event follows the success of previous Runway Runs, including last year’s edition, which raised £15,000 to support the lifesaving work of Air Ambulance NI. The organisation provides critical pre‑hospital care across Northern Ireland, responding to serious medical emergencies on average twice daily.
Sponsored once again by H&A Group, the 2026 Runway Run invites runners and walkers of all abilities, with the focus firmly on community participation and fundraising. City of Derry Airport Managing Director Steve Frazer expressed pride in hosting the event for another year, noting the vital role Air Ambulance NI plays and encouraging widespread public involvement.

The 5K route along the runway offers a flat, fast course suitable for personal best attempts, while also promising an enjoyable evening with prizes and a lively atmosphere. Entry costs £25, with a minimum recommended sponsorship of £100, all of which goes directly to supporting AANI’s Helicopter Emergency Medical Service.
Participants will again have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Stories from previous years, including testimonials from families who have directly benefited from the charity’s interventions, highlight just how significant the service is to communities across Northern Ireland.
Registration for the event is now open, and with limited places available, early sign‑up is strongly encouraged. Click here for details.
