Squawk 7000 presenter, Airshow commentator and General Aviation pilot Michael Comyn has produced an online course that teaches radio skills for general aviation pilots. The thought of using the radio can be daunting for new pilots and for experienced pilots who are out of practice. There are lots of safety benefits to using the radio such as receiving a flight information service from Dublin or Shannon FIS, alerting ATC to a problem you may have on board or diverting if required into controlled airspace.
The course has eight sections:
- Introduction – Letters of the Alphabet
- Registrations – Abbreviations and Numbers
- Standard Phrases
- Radio Calls in the Circuit
- Transponder Use
- ATIS – Automatic Terminal Information Service.
- Good Airmanship on the Radio
- Emergencies PAN – MAYDAY
Whether you’re a student pilot or a qualified pilot who hasn’t ventured near controlled airspace for some time, you’re sure to learn something new from this course. The course is completed online and is available for €20, access it by clicking here.
