The Special Day of Flying (SDOF) was held at Newcastle Airfield, Co. Wicklow (EINC) on 6th July 2024. Over 150 children and young adults with disabilities (Very Important Passengers) and their families got to experience the joy of flight. Using experienced pilots and aircraft with at least 4-seats, the VIPs and their families took to the skies for magnificent views of Wicklow – some were even lucky enough to see as far as Wales. Noel Connolly, a member of the organising team, commented that “This is a magical day for the families, and the volunteers get a lot out of it too. Thankfully the weather held for the day and everyone who wanted a flight, got to go flying.”
On the ground, a range of activities are also available for the children to enjoy. They enjoyed face-painting, a bouncing obstacle course, a petting zoo, a disco, and a trampoline, among other activities.
